异径管有分为同心和偏心两种，同心异径管一般用在垂直管上；偏心异径管用于水平管，并且要注意标明顶平还是底平。
主要有以下几个地方:
1、当管道中流体的流量有变化时，比如增大或减少，流速要求变化不大时，均需采用异径管。
2、泵的进口，为防止汽蚀。
3、与仪表，如流量计、调节阀的接头处，为了与仪表的接头配合，也需采用异径管。
泵入口变径管的安装应使气体不在变径处积聚，避免因安装不当而产生气蚀。泵的水平入口管变径时，应选用偏心异径管。当管道从下向上水平进泵时，异径管应取“顶平”；当管道从上向下水平进泵时，异径管应取“底平”
为防止气体在泵入口变径管处积聚，偏心异径管也有采用“顶平”的安装方式，即使管道从上向下水平进泵也如此。
